About Barriere Outdoor Club
The Barriere Outdoor Club (formerly recognized as the North Thompson Recreation Society) is a well-established nonprofit organization in Barriere within Simpcw First Nation territory with a mandate to provide recreational programs and opportunities without prejudice, in a welcoming, diverse and inclusive environment. Most of our low or no cost fun and educational programs target youth.
The programs run in and around Barriere include:
The Barriere Outdoor Club relies on the members to organize, promote and facilitate outdoor physical activities for the community and schools. The organization has no employees; it operates solely on volunteers. Major operational funding for the organizations comes from donations,
TNRD and grants. There are two donation boxes at the trails, one at the parking area and one at the warming hut.
The programs run in and around Barriere include:
- Cross Country Skiing and Snow Shoe lessons for grade 3 and 7 (winter)
- Hiking programs for all ages
- Trail Maintenance at Barriere Forks Regional Park (year round)
- Pickleball
- Other organized outdoor recreational fitness activities and events around the North Thompson Valley
